Measuring AI Visibility — here's how
What isn't measured can't be improved. That applies to AI Visibility just as much as to classic SEO. But how do you measure whether a brand appears in AI assistants — and how often?
Here are the most important methods, metrics and tools.
The most important metrics
Mention Rate
How often is your brand mentioned in X queries? Example: 3 out of 4 queries at ChatGPT = 75% mention rate. The most important base metric.
Position in the answer
Is your brand mentioned first or in position 5? Position #1 is significantly more valuable — AI users often only read the beginning of the answer.
Sentiment
Is your brand mentioned positively, neutrally or negatively? Positive = "Porsche is known for reliability" vs. Neutral = "Porsche is a car manufacturer".
Cross-AI consistency
Are you recommended by all AI systems or just one? High consistency across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini is a sign of real brand presence.
Method 1: Manual testing
The simplest method: ask questions yourself to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Formulate 5–10 questions that potential customers would ask — without mentioning your brand name — and see if you're mentioned.
Downside: Time-consuming, not reproducible, no structured evaluation.
Method 2: Systematic monitoring with rank8
rank8 automates this process. You enter brand name and industry, rank8 generates realistic queries, submits them to multiple AI systems and delivers a structured report with score, mention rate and competitor analysis.
The advantage: reproducible, comparable over time, multiple AIs simultaneously.
What you should measure regularly
- Baseline score: Where do you stand today?
- Quarterly check: Has your score changed?
- After campaigns: Did a PR measure improve your score?
- Competitor comparison: Who is recommended instead of you?
